Preparing for a Web- Cam Interview

Nursing SKYPE interviews 

- Always look tidy - if only from the waist up!

- Make sure your environment is also clean and tidy and that the view behind you is not distracting for the interviewer.

- Take away any potentially offensive pictures/ornaments especially for the more conservative Saudi interviews

- Make sure that you have good light and that there will not be a glare from the sun.

- Always do a trial run beforehand to make sure that your connection will work on the interview day. This is especially true if you are using a web chat programme for the first time. Find a friend who uses the App and try calling them.

- Place the device on a solid surface such as a table  or selfie stand as if it is on your lap the computer will be constantly moving as you speak and the interviewer may feel sea-sick!

- Make sure that children, pets and housemates or family members are all out of the house while you are doing the interview. This is the only way to ensure that they don't create disturbing background noise. Tell them to take a trip out to the park or somewhere else. 

- If you are experiencing connection problems or technical difficulties inform your recruiter.  You can then discuss alternative means of getting in touch. Remember to stay calm and don't get flustered. If you are having genuine difficulties, your interviewer will be understanding.

- Be ready well in advance in case the interviewers are running early and be prepared to wait for the call in case they are running late. A lot of the time it will be Heads of Departments who will be the interviewer so they may be delayed by an emergency. 

- During the interviewer, make an extra effort to speak clearly, to ensure that the interviewer can hear exactly what you're saying.

- Always have a glass of water nearby.
